Welcome to the herbal practice of Alice Johnston, consultant medical herbalist. My practice is based in Uphall, West Lothian, in the Central Belt between Edinburgh and Glasgow.
I offer Western Herbal Medicine consultations for both acute and chronic conditions, and I work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals to support the best possible outcomes for my patients. Herbal treatment plans are individualised and developed with careful consideration of each person’s health history and current needs.
With successful careers in the private and public sector I understand the pressures of modern life and the challenges to integrate healthier lifestyle options and strategies into a busy schedule. My clinical approach reflects this understanding and aims to offer realistic, supportive care.
I am a member of the National Institute for Medical Herbalists (NIMH), the largest professional association of Western medical herbal practitioners in the UK. Founded in 1864, the NIMH is respected nationally and internationally and sets rigorous standards for professional practice.
As an NIMH-registered medical herbalist, I am committed to practising herbal medicine to the highest professional standards and in full adherence to the NIMH Code of Ethics. This includes clear obligations to patients, professional conduct, safeguarding, confidentiality, and the appropriate handling of concerns.
My clinical practice is grounded in the tradition of Western Herbal Medicine, combining conventional medical sciences and diagnostic understanding with plant-based medicine, also known as phytotherapy. Herbal medicine may be used as supportive care on its own or alongside conventional medical treatment, where appropriate.
Patients are seen by appointment only.
